SEVENTEENTH SUNDAY OF THE YEAR: In this Mass, we are invited to learn from Jesus how to pray.  The disciples ask Him to teach them and He does.  We can discover the Lord’s way of prayer every time we celebrate Mass.

CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD is suspended during the school holidays.

BAPTISMS AND MARRIAGES are by appointment.  We welcome Emily Scarlett Page, who is baptised this Sunday into the Church of Christ & the Family of God.

THE CHURCH is open daily for visits and prayer.

MORNING PRAYER from the Divine Office is recited ¼ hour before daily Mass.

ADORATION of the BL. SACRAMENT is on Friday from 2.00 to 8.00pm in the Church.

SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION (Confession) is on Saturday from 12.30 to 1.00pm

 

FAREWELL AND THANKS to Fr John Hogan as his holiday ends this weekend.

THE NATIONAL DAY FOR LIFE, as designated by the Bishops of England and Wales, is this weekend. The theme chosen is “ Lord, for your faithful people, life is changed, not ended” to raise awareness about the meaning and value of human life at every stage, including death. To help us reflect on these issues further, there is a short leaflet to be given out after Mass.  A special collection, which can be gift-aided, will be taken up at all Masses to assist the work of the Anscombe Bioethics Centre (formerly the Linacre Centre for Healthcare Ethics) & other LIFE related activities. Please be generous, as usual!

THE APOSTLESHIP OF PRAYER leaflets for July are available to take home. 

ST WILFRID’S CENTRE trolley is in the porch this weekend for tins of ham & potatoes.       

PAPAL VISIT SEPTEMBER 2010.  The details of the Papal Visit for each parish are now made public.  There are 2 large venues - Hyde Park, London on 18th September & Cofton Park, Birmingham for the Beatification Mass on Sunday, 19th September. Names of participants are needed by this Sunday, 25th July. Please sign up today for either venue on lists in the porch. The Parish Pilgrim Co-ordinator for Hyde Park is John Dawson, & the coordinator for Birmingham is Andrew Sedlmeier. We have 27 places for Hyde Park & 13 places for Birmingham still left.  The cost for Hyde Park (without a coach) is £10 and for Birmingham £25 (including coach fare).  Please let me have this amount as soon as possible in an envelope marked “Papal Visit”, it can be gift-aided. (Cheques to be made out to “St Williams Parish”).

COFFEE AND TEA are available on Sundays between Masses in the Parish Centre.

LIFE’s 40th BIRTHDAY falls this Sunday and those who have booked with Eileen Maher are invited to have tea at 3pm with Jack & Nuala Scarisbrick (founders of LIFE) at the 1889 Restaurant, Sheffield United Suites, Cherry St.

THE DIOCESAN CLERGY RETREAT this year is from Monday to Friday this week at Myddleton Grange, Ilkley. Fr Kieran Heskin from the Leeds Diocese will be leading the retreat this year.  I am making this retreat. Please pray for us all!  Anyone wishing to make a retreat themselves should visit the Retreat Association  www.retreat.org.uk.

THE MONTHLY LUNCH of soup and sandwiches for the Parish Lourdes Fund is on Thursday this week, in the York Room after midday Mass. Please give your support.

 

CAFOD & ASSIST monthly retiring collection is after all Masses next weekend.  All money in an envelope goes to CAFOD.  All loose cash goes to ASSIST.

THE FAIRTRADE STALL is suspended next Sunday.

BENEDICTION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT with Devotions in honour of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, will be celebrated next Sunday at 4pm for the First Sunday of the Month.  Please do try to share in these monthly Devotions.

THE HALLAM ASCENT GROUP meets for Cream Teas at Highbury Convent on Wednesday, 4th August from 2-4pm, hopefully in the garden.  Everyone welcome!  Ascent members are invited to bring a friend as there is fundraising to be dome!
